Ah as summer winds to an end, I have memories (didn't say they were happy memories) but memories of going to Paul Bunyan Day Camp in Long Island, New York as a child. Here I am in 1966ish, smiling or howling. Hard to tell. Inside I'm full of dread of the disgusting jellyfish, the dehydrated eggs, and the moment that was about to happen when an incendiary marshmallow fell on my arm and had to be extinguished by many campers pounding on my arm. A picture lies a thousand ways. Oh and did I mention when we were doing BB gun shooting I loaded the rifle then closed it on my thigh from which it pinched and hung for at least one minute until a counselor pried it open with much difficulty? Fun fun fun in the sun, sun, sun. And this is why I hate outside.

ReplyDeleteI remember this camp! What a blast to see this picture!
ReplyDeleteWent there in ‘75, ‘76 with my brother and several neighbors. Most fond memories! Driving to camp in a counselors car listening to 80’s music, Big Jim whistling for GA (General Assembly), candy at the canteen, ice pops at the end of the day! Back when things were simple !
ReplyDelete70’s music !
DeleteI remember going to Paul Bunyan Day Camp at the Lake Grove School. It was right across from the Smith Haven Mall. I went to the horseback riding stables and the Go Kart Track. It was a GREAT time and I am so thankful that my parents could send me there. I have no photos but I can clearly remember the Canteen with their frozen turkish taffy...
